UNC Kenan-Flager’s selection of Charlotte’s Uptown neighborhood sought to create a multi-functional space that was easily accessible to the surrounding business district. Their goal was to expand on their legacy in Chapel Hill of serving students with a superior educational and innovative experience that is unmatched. With its community and student body in mind, the new space supports learning styles that focus on technology, and adaptability, while providing a gathering space for university and local events.
Aware that classes would be held primarily during evening hours, KFBS included elements to accommodate their students arriving directly from work such as locker storage, a catering kitchen, and variety of postures to allow studying or concluding business. To support a continually growing student body, classrooms with operable walls and reconfigurable furniture allow Kenan Flagler to adapt in place for years to come.
